Props - mise en scene

Our opening to the film uses a range of props. Some of the main props used are a car, an electric razor and a phone. In our shots there are lots of usual house-hold objects. This is simply because we were filming in Jonny's house and we wanted to establish that the character being shown is a regular person and this is represented by the usual house-hold objects. Our costumes are very simple, one of the characters is wearing very casual and the others are wearing smart clothes, e.g blazers and ties.

Shooting information

On Saturday the 3rd of December we all met again at Jonny Cloke's house to film again. All of lour shots were filmed at the one location that was Jonny's house. We used his bedroom, bathroom, hall-way and drive-way. So far we have filmed over 2 days and we are almost finished but there are a couple of shots that still need to be filmed and they will also be done at Jonny's house. We will be meeting up on one of the upcoming weekends to finish filming.

First day of filming

On the 30th of November, we all met at Jonny Clokes house where we agreed to start filming and use as our location. Myself, Arron North, Jonny Cloke and Sam Dixon Started to film the opening of our film. When we all arrived we started to plan out what our film was going to be about and how we wanted to film it. We also decided on music that would be good to use and once we had come to a decison on a song by a local band we messaged them asking for their permission to use it. Then we started filming the opening shots. During the opening there are shots inside and outside of the house we were using for filming. We started filming the inside shots first and by the time we were ready to film the outside shots it had got to dark for the time of day we wanted in the film. Due to this we didnt get as much filmed as we would have liked.

Submarine
  • Genre: Comedy/Black Comedy
  • Mood/Atmosphere: From the part of the film we've seen so far, the general mood of the film is quite plain and bland. The setting of the film is quite remote and this adds to the mood as its quite and gives the overall atmosphere of blandness. The sound used keeps the mood a constant as its its general sounds expected to hear around an area. The use of seaguls, cars and other normal sounds keeps the mood of plain-ness.

Preliminary Scene

We have agreed to make our preliminary scene the mint exchange. The scene is a tongue in cheek version of a drugs trade. Even though the topic is quite a serious one it take a humourous appraoch to it. We have decided to film it in the school grounds but not in a building. We have used a range of camera positions, we use long shots, extreme close ups and a range of other camera shots. The dialogue used within the scene is short, but this adds to the feel of the immitation drugs exchange. The dialogue is:
Person 1: Im over here
Person 2: Alright, you got the stuff
Person 1: Yeah, pretty good stuff
Person 2: Right, good ... Thanks

The shot sequence within the film goes like:
Shot 1: Long shot (Establishing shot)
Shot 2: Long shot
Shot 3: Over the shoulder (Conversation)
Shot 4: Over the shoulder ( "               " )
Shot 5: Close up (Showing exchange)
Shot 6: Mid shot
Shot 7: Mid shot
Shot 8: Mid shot (Pan across to show action)

These different shots have different effects on the audience, for example, the establishing shot allows the audience to see where the setting is. The over the shoulder shots make the audience feel involved, as if they are in the conversation themselves. The close ups also make the audience feel involved as they are close to the action.
Unfortunately, this footage did not meet the requirements of the criteria so we needed to film another preliminary film.

experimental footage

When filming the experimental footage there were a few things we had to discuss. We spent quite a lot of time setting up the shot and planning how we would like to shoot it. We had to decide on what kind of shot to use and what was going to happen once we had started filming. We experimented with a few different types of shot and different kinds of techniques. Another thing we had to consider was the dialogue in the shot, some of what we had planned had to be changed due to differences we made in the shot. One problem we had was camera movements, when we were panning some of the movements were jerky or bumpy and we had to re-shoot and find a way to pan with the movement being smoother. Other than this i felt the shooting went well as we got the footage needed with few errors.
